Is it always listening?
No. There is no wake word and no always-on microphone. It captures only while you are holding the button, and the display shows you when it is.
Can people tell it's recording?
Yes. A live audio meter runs across the display on the face of the card the whole time it records, and it records only while the button is held. Let go and the meter stops with it.
Is it weird to put this on the table?
No. It's a card with a display on its face, and it looks like what it is. Say what you're doing before you press — “Mind if I record this so I'm not taking notes the whole time?” — then hold the button. The meter moves while it records, and everyone at the table can see it.
Which one should I get?
chit one if you want it in a card slot and out of the way. chit one Pro if you reach for it constantly and want to find it by feel — it's larger, thicker, and has a faceted face your thumb lands on without looking.
Is there really only one finish?
Yes. Silver — bead-blasted natural anodised aluminium. One finish, done properly, on every card: no grain direction, no colourways, nothing to pick and nothing to regret. A swatch row is a way of saying none of them was the point.
Do I need my phone with me?
No. The card captures on its own. The app is where you read the transcript and the brief.
What does it do with my calendar and mail?
It reads them so a capture can be matched to the meeting it came from and a next step can become a real event or a drafted reply. You choose which accounts to connect, and you can disconnect them at any time.
What about privacy?
Your captures are yours. Delete any one — audio, transcript and summary — in one tap. Your voice is never sold and never used to sell you anything.
How long does the battery last?
About a month of normal use between charges, over USB-C.

The card is a one-time purchase. A $9 monthly membership runs the intelligence — unlimited transcripts, summaries and next steps, the daily brief, calendar and mail connections, and search across everything you've captured.
What still works if I stop paying?
The card. Hold the button and it still records, membership or not. What stops is the reading — transcripts, summaries, the daily brief, calendar and mail connections, and search pause until the membership is back. Until then you do the reading yourself.
Does it work somewhere loud?
Yes — it was tuned for a busy street, a full room and a car at speed.
Is it legal to record people?
Recording laws differ by state, and several require every party's consent. chit only captures while you hold the button — nothing is ambient — but knowing your state's rule before recording another person is on you.
Where do you ship?
The contiguous United States, free. Checkout collects a US shipping address; more regions as we grow.
How do returns work?
Thirty days, free. Email ahmad@hichit.com, send it back by mail, and the card is refunded in full. Defects after that are covered by the one-year limited warranty.
What happens to the $9 if I send it back?
Nothing is charged for the membership until 14 days after checkout. Return the card inside thirty days — email ahmad@hichit.com, send it back by mail — and the card is refunded in full; say so in the same email and the membership is cancelled with it.
When does the membership start billing?
14 days after checkout. The device is charged on day one; the $9 is not. Cancel any time — one email to ahmad@hichit.com does it.
